Job Title: Porter / Cleaner
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Porter/Cleaner with 1–3 years of experience to help maintain the cleanliness and appearance of a 189-unit+ residential building. The ideal candidate will be responsible for cleaning, upkeep of common areas, light maintenance support, and assisting with trash removal. This full-time role is essential to ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Maintain cleanliness of all common areas including lobbies, hallways, elevators, stairwells, restrooms, and laundry rooms
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust daily as scheduled
- Clean interior and exterior glass, doors, and windows
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces such as handrails, door handles, and intercoms regularly
Trash & Waste Management
- Remove garbage and recycling from designated collection areas and dispose of in building dumpsters or compactors
- Maintain cleanliness of trash rooms and surrounding areas
- Assist with bulk trash removal and seasonal cleanup
Building Support
- Assist maintenance staff with light tasks such as changing light bulbs, minor repairs, and supply restocking
- Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards promptly to management
- Support setup and cleanup for building events or move-ins/outs when needed
Outdoor & Seasonal Maintenance
- Sweep and maintain building entryways, sidewalks, and courtyards
- Assist with snow removal and salting during winter months
- Water planters or maintain landscaping as needed
Qualifications:
- 1–3 years of experience in janitorial, porter, or building maintenance roles (residential preferred)
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, sanitation protocols, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, operate cleaning equipment, and perform physical tasks regularly
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; OSHA certification is a plus
